This appellation blend always holds its own against the winery's single-vineyard expressions. Elegantly rich while fresh on the nose with blackberry sauce, lilac and savory pepper spice, it leads into a polished palate of smooth but firm tannins that frame the baked boysenberry, cardamom, mace and clove flavors. Moderate, consistent temperatures provided optimal ripeness resulting in a wine with darkness, minerality, and elegance reminiscent of a fine Cote-Rotie Syrah. Balanced acidity makes Jaffurs Santa Barbara Syrah exciting on the palate. Plums and dark fruit integrate with Northern Rhone Syrah characteristics of cassis, tar, white pepper and black licorice. A beautiful wine that should age magnificently.
